I went to Alex’s house.
“Let’s do something interesting today,” I said.
“Let’s go on a picnic near the lake. Let’s have lunch there,” said Alex.
“Yes, that’s a good idea,” I said.
“What have you got to eat?”
We went into the kitchen.
He opened the refrigerator. “Nothing,” he said.
“Let’s go and see what we have.”
At my house we found some food.
“Great!” Alex said.
The door opened. Fudge with Turtle came back home.
“What are you doing? Are you making lunch?”
“That’s right. We’re going on a picnic.”
“Where are you going for the picnic?” asked Fudge.
“The lake,” I said. “I’ll come too,” said Fudge.
“Oh, no, you won’t!” I said.
“Why not?” he asked. “I like picnics. I want to go on a picnic, too! Take me ... take me.”
“Get lost!” I said. “Call Daniel. Do something ... Come on, Alex!”
We jumped on our bicycles and rode down the street.

Alex had a piano lesson and we came back.
“Don’t forget to wash the thermos,” Dad said.
“I won’t,” I said. “Where’s Fudge?” “I haven’t seen him,”
Dad said. “He’s at Daniel’s house, I think,” Mum said.
At four, the phone rang. It was Daniel’s mother. She asked me to tell Daniel it was time to go home.
“He’s not here,” I said.
“Then where is he?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” I said. “Mum, it’s Mrs Manheim. She’s looking for Daniel.”
Soon Mrs Manheim drove up in a red sports car. “We think they have gone to the lake,” Dad told her. “Warren,” Mum said, “go with Mrs Manheim and I’ll stay here with Peter. They can phone us.”
