This story happened in an English school a few years ago. It was the first day after the summer holidays. All the pupils were in the classroom.
After the bell, a new teacher came into the room. She was young and nice.
“Good morning! I’m your new teacher — Miss Jones,” she said and smiled. The lesson started. But the pupils did not do what their new teacher said. They spoke loudly and ran between the desks.
Miss Jones looked at the pupils and clapped her hands. Suddenly it became dark and cold for a minute. The pupils stood still and surprised. They looked at their new teacher. She was serious. “Sit down, please,” she said. All the pupils sat down.
Miss Jones opened her bag and took out a blue pen. Suddenly the blue pen became red and turned into a nice red umbrella.
Miss Jones opened her red umbrella and a rain of sweets and toys began.
In the second and third lessons Miss Jones and her pupils studied hard. They counted stars on the walls, talked with goldfish and drew magic pictures. It was fun. The children were happy. Miss Jones’s lessons were the most interesting lessons they had.
The next morning all the pupils ran to school. They came on time, nobody was late as they usually were. The classroom was clean. There weren’t any sweets and toys on the floor. There weren’t any stars on the walls. Soon a new teacher came into the classroom. He didn’t smile and looked serious.
“Where is Miss Jones? Where is our teacher?” asked one of the pupils.
“Miss Jones? I don’t know Miss Jones. Let’s begin our lesson. Open your books,” said the new teacher. The children were sad. Suddenly they saw Miss Jones’s red umbrella in the corner of the classroom and smiled. They understood that one day Miss Jones would come back.
