Tsiolkovsky Museum
The Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics was opened m 1967 in Kaluga city and is named after the Russian rocket scientist. Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (1857-1935). It is the first museum of space exploration that was built in the world and is the biggest museum in Russia.
The building has over 2.300 sq metres of exhibition area and presents the history of modem space exploration from the first man made rocket to spaceships and space stations It is divided into three parts. In the first area, the visitor can see Tsiolkovsky models of rockets. The second section houses many models and instruments of Russian space exploration. The third area of the museum is outside in a garden where people can see real rockets that were used in early space exploration. The museum also has a planetarium where you can look at the stars and see a 40.5 kg meteorite that fell to Earth on 12th February, 1947
The Tsiolkovsky State Museum houses more than 60,000 pieces in all and has received millions оf visitors over the past forty years. It is surely one of the best and most interesting museums in Russia.
