1) Mother: Tom!
Tom: Yes, Mother?
Mother: Do you want to go out today?
Tom: Oh, yes, Mother.
Mother: Would you like to go to the cinema, to the zoo or to the park?
Tom: Can we go to the cinema? I hear there’s a new James Bond film on.
Mother: Yes, dear. We can. Would you like to ask your friend Jim to go with us?
Tom: This is a wonderful idea, Mother. I’ll give him a ring and invite [intaskvait] him. I think he will be happy to join us.
Mother: Good. I know that Jim’s parents are away on business and he is staying with his grandmother. I don’t think he will say no to a new James Bond film.
2) Sam: Hi, Bob. How are things?
Bob: I’ m fine, thank you. And how are you?
Sam: Not so bad, thanks.
Bob: You don’t look very happy. What’s the matter?
Sam: Oh, nothing. It’s just... the cat.
Bob: The cat? What cat? I didn’t know that you had pets.
Sam: My aunt Sue went away on holiday and left her cat Bandit [taskbaendit] with me for two weeks. Bandit gives me a lot of problems.
Bob: Does he? What are the problems?
Sam: Aunt Sue gave me a big bag of cat food but Bandit doesn’t want any cat food. He asks for fish.
Bob: I see. You go to the shops to get tasty fish for Bandit after your work, don’t you?
Sam: Yes, I do. And it doesn’t make me very happy. But I know I’m doing it for my aunt.
3) Jane: It’s so good to see you,
Grandmother Emma. Please take a sit.
G. Emma: Thank you, child.
Jane: Tea or coffee?
G. Emma: I never drink coffee.
It’s not good for me. I’d like a hot strong cup of tea with milk, please.
Jane: Here’s your tea and some apple pie.
G. Emma: Mmm... Very nice tea and tasty pie. Thank you, child. Who made it?
Jane: My husband Don did. He helps me a lot about the house. He washes the plates and we often cook together. G. Emma: My son, your father, never cooks. His wife does.
Jane: I know. But Don likes cooking. Can you stay and have dinner with us?
G. Emma: Thank you, child. I’d like to stay and meet your husband.
