Мы - большая семья, живем в четырехкомнатном коттедже в тихом поселке. Нам нравится наш дом - он хорошо спроектирован, из него открывается прекрасный вид на реку, и каждому из нас нравится быть там и проводить время вместе. Однажды пришли мои бабушка и дедушка, которые живут по соседству, и мы все вместе пили чай. Моя мама сказала:

“Я так рада видеть всех вас здесь, когда мы все сидим вот так, разговаривая друг с другом, делясь новостями, шутим и смеемся, я знаю, что я дома. Это мой дом - вы, мои дети, мой муж, мои родители, которых я очень люблю и которые делают мою жизнь полноценной и достойной того, чтобы жить”.

На всех нас произвели впечатление трогательные слова матери, и мой брат заговорил и сказал: “Для меня дом - это место, где я могу расслабиться, ничего не делать и смотреть телевизор. А как насчет тебя, сестренка?” - спросил он мою младшую сестру Люси.

“О, для меня дом - это место, где я могу играть со своими куклами и питаться трижды в день. Это еще и место, где можно поставить елку”. “Да, - сказал мой младший брат, - сюда всегда приходит Санта-Клаус и оставляет всем нам подарки!”

“Как тебе повезло, - сказал папа, - для меня дом - это место, где я никогда не сплю, потому что вы все время задаете мне вопросы. Это место, где все время нужно о чем-то заботиться - ремонтировать протекающие краны, менять старые лампочки, забивать гвозди, чтобы повесить фотографии! Но я люблю это! Это держит меня занятым”.

Моя бабушка посмотрела на нас и сказала: “Дом для меня - единственное место, где я могу быстро вылечиться от простуды или гриппа. Ни одно другое место не подходит для меня так хорошо. Это место, наполненное любовью и заботой”. Дедушка улыбнулся и сказал: “Только дома я могу хорошо выспаться”.

Когда подошла моя очередь, я сказал: “Это все для меня - место, куда я хочу возвращаться в конце каждого дня. Лучше дома места нет!”

The mother: This is home to her — her children, husband, her parents, whom she loves very much and who make her life full and worth living.

The elder brother: It is a place where he can relax, do nothing and watch TV.

The younger son: It’s where Santa Claus always comes and leaves presents for them all.

The grandma: It is a place where she can quickly recover from a cold or flu.

We are a big family and we live in a four-bedroom cottage in a quiet village. We love our house — it’s well designed, has a nice view of the river and each of us enjoys being there and spending time together. One day my grandma and grandpa who live next door came over and we were having tea all together. My Mum said,

‘I am so happy to see all of you here, when we are all sitting like this talking to each other, sharing the news, all jokes and laughing, I know I am at home. This is home to me — you, my children, my husband, my parents, whom I love very dearly and who make my life full and worth living.’

We were all impressed by mother’s touching words and my brother spoke up and said, ‘To me home is where I can relax, do nothing and watch TV. What about you, Sis,’ he asked my youngest sister Lucy.

‘Oh, to me home is where I can play with my dolls and have three meals a day. It is also a place where you can put up a Christmas tree.’ ‘Yes,’ said my youngest brother, ‘it’s where Santa Claus always comes and leaves presents for us all!’

‘How lucky you are,’ said my Dad, ‘to me home is a place where I am never at rest because you keep asking me questions. It is a place where something has to be taken care of all the time — fixing leaking taps, changing old light bulbs, hammering in nails for pictures to be hung! But... I love it! It keeps me busy.’

My grandmother looked at us and said, ‘Home to me is the only place where I can quickly recover from a cold or flu. No other place works that well for me. It’s a place filled with love and care.’ My grandpa smiled and said, ‘It is only at home that I can have a good night’s sleep.’

When my turn came I said, ‘It’s everything to me — a place I want to return to at the end of every day. There is no place like home!’
