The Who

The Who were one of the most successful bands in the history of British rock music.

There were four members in the band:

Roger Daltrey (lead vocalist, songwriter, plays a little harmonica and guitar)

Pete Townshend (guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and lyricist of almost all of the band's songs)

John Entwhistle (bassist, multi-instrumentalist)

Keith Moon (died 1978) (drums)

The band started playing in 1964. They performed with one line-up for 15 years. After the death of drummer Keith Moon, they continued to perform with new drummer Kenny Jones.

The band's first success came with a performance at London's trendy Marquee Club. At that time, the participants had already formed a unique style of performances. Their hallmark was the breaking of instruments, which became part of the show.

Their single `I Can't Explain” was a success initially. it was in all the UK music charts.

Their other records were “Tommy”, “Quadrophenia”, “The Who By Numbers”, “Who Are You”

The band’s last record was ‘It’s Hard in 1982. The band played together for the concert Live Aid in July 1985. Their last concert was in Hyde Park in July 1996, where they performed ‘Quadrophenia’ live for the first time.

The most famous member of the band is Sting, who has made many records alone, including ‘The Dream of the Blue Turtles’ (1985) and ‘Mercury Falling’ (1996). He has also appeared in several films, including ‘Quadrophenia’, ‘Dune’, ‘The Bride’, ‘Plenty’ and ‘Grotesque’.
