58 Read and remember the difference between the phrases What is he/she tike? and What does he/she took like? When we ask about a person:

58. Прочитайте и запомните разницу между фразами What is he/she tike? (какой он/она) и What does he/she took like? (как он/она выглядит?)

Когда мы спрашиваем о человеке: What is he / she like? (Какой он?) — ответ может относиться к внешности или характеру, или к обоим — внешности и характеру:

What is Melissa like? (Мелисса, она какая?) – Мелисса — хорошенькая молодая девушка с серыми глазами и длинными светлыми волосами. Она умна и дружелюбна.

Когда мы спрашиваем только о внешности, мы спрашиваем What does he / she look like? (как он / она выглядит?)

What does Ilya look like? (Как выглядит Илья?) — Илья довольно красив. Он стройный. У него короткие темные волнистые волосы.

When we ask about a person: What is he / she like? — the answer can refer to appearance or character, or both — appearance and character:

What is Melissa like? — Melissa is a pretty young girl with grey eyes and long fair hair. She is smart and friendly.

When we only ask about appearance, we say What does he / she look like?

What does Ilya look like? — Ilya is quite handsome. He is slim. He has got short dark wavy hair.
