54 a) Read Ronaldtasks story. Say what was strange about the new boy.
This year we have a new Maths teacher and a new student, Steve, in our local school. Maths has never been our favourite school subject. But the new student had real problems with Maths and was the champion in asking questions in Maths lessons. At first the new Maths teacher tried to explain Maths rules to him in different ways, but it was useless. Steve always said something stupid. Like one plus two was five, or six times three1 was fifteen. Before Steve arrived. Maths lessons had been the most boring of all. Now they were great fun. Encouraged by the new teacher, my classmates listened to Stevetasks answers and tried to correct his mistakes. We all wanted to be the first to find mistakes, and then think up the most original ways to explain them. To do this we used different things: oranges, lemons, books, pencils... Steve listened to us attentively and was always friendly and polite.
However, I was sure that the situation in Maths lessons made him feel unhappy. So. one day after school, I decided to follow Steve on his way home. I was sure I could find something nice to say to cheer him up if he needed it.
So I followed him. At first, Steve walked to a local park. There he sat down on the bench and waited for a while, until someone came along to meet him ...
b) Guess who came to Steve in the park.
c) Read the end of the story and find out if you were right.
Imagine! It was our new Maths teacher! The teacher came to Steve, and they went together. Following from a distance, I could hear they were talking about Maths. And that the ‘stupid’ new student knew everything about it. much more than anyone in the class!
