At the beginning of the 20th century, after a visit to Manchester Zoo young George told his dad. ‘When I have a zoo, it won’t have any bars.’ The boy’s dream came true when he opened his own zoo in 1931.

Nowadays Chester Zoo is the UK’s largest zoological garden. The zoo has plenty of animals, reptiles, birds and insects to see. There are 20,000 animals from 500 different species. About half of the species are rare and endangered animals. In the zoo, the visitors can watch the wildlife. The most popular attractions are Butterfly Journey’, ‘Fruit Bat Forest’ and ‘Elephants of the Asian Forests’. Chester Zoo is open 7 days a week from 10 am.
