The Greeks
Pyanopsia
Pyanopsia was a celebration to honour the god Apollo (god of sunlight, music, poetry and dance).
It took place on 7th October.
They celebrated the festival with a procession.
Every child with two living parents carried an eiresione in the procession – a laurel branch decorated with fruit, small jars of honey and bottles of oil and wine.
People came out of their houses to give presents to the children.
In return, some people received the eiresione to hang above their doors for good luck, but the children offered most of the branches to the god Apollo at the end of the procession.
