A science programme
4 (71) Listen to the TV programme about cars of the future. Which one of the designs in the pictures don’t they talk about?
Cars of the future
Текст аудирования:
(P = Presenter, Pr = Professor)
P: ... and now here’s Professor James Franks to tell us about the cars of the future ...
Pr: Hello! Well, everyone knows that cars are a big problem for the environment. Did you know that there are 230 million vehicles, just in the United States?
P: Wow! That’s a lot of cars.
Pr: Yes, and a big problem! So, the cars of the future wontaskt use petrol. They’ll be electric, and they’ll have solar panels on the roof, as you can see in this design. In fact, electric cars like this already exist...
P: What, with solar panels?
Pr: Yes, in sunnier places, like California. Not here in Britain!
P: No, I can imagine ...
Pr: Anyway, cars will be much smaller. In fact, the size of the car will be flexible - so itII change automatically depending on the number of people in it.
P: Wow! And what will the cars of the future be made of?
Pr: Well, they won’t be made of the same metals as today. They’ll be much lighter. They’ll be made of recycled materials - such as plastic, or aluminium.
P: But will that be safe? I mean, what if theretasks an accident?
Pr: Hmm, but there won’t be any accidents because cars will have automatic pilot systems. People won’t actually drive cars in the future!
P: You mean, people wontaskt need to learn to drive?
Pr: Exactly. It’ll be like using a computer!
P: That’s amazing.
Pr: Yeah, and all traffic will travel in tunnels, under the ground. So all our roads will become green spaces, and our cities will be much nicer places!
P: With no pollution!
Pr: Exactly!
P: Well, thanks for coming in to talk to us ...
