Chiswick School
Chiswick School is a secondary school which is located in West London. The school is quite large, there are more than one thousand pupils. Chiswick School can be called a multicultural school because many boys and girls have Asian and African ethnic backgrounds. 1__
If the parents want their son or daughter to study at Chiswick School, they have to apply to the local government authority. The unlucky ones have to go to other city schools.
Lots of different subjects are taught in Chiswick School: English, Maths, Science, etc. One of the compulsory school subjects is Information Technology (IT). Nowadays computers have become an essential part of our life. The teachers believe that IT skills are necessary for their pupils to survive in the
modern world. There are three computer centres in the school. Besides that, there are computers and laptops in all the classrooms. 2.
Sport and Physical Education are prominent in the school programme. The school has a well-equipped gym, six tennis courts, two squash courts and a large sports ground.
3. _ The pupils can do football, rugby, cricket, basketball, netball, tennis, badminton and hockey. The River Thames flows nearby the school and provides the school with some water sports facilities such as rowing, canoeing and kayaking.
4. _ They can take part in numerous clubs and courses, such as Drama Club and Theatre Group, Shakespeare Club and Film Making Club, Computing and Programming Courses etc. A festival of arts, which has become Chiswick’s traditional showcase of talent, is held every summer.
The pupils of Chiswick School have to wear a uniform. At first, some parents and pupils were against the uniform. 5__
Now everyone agrees that the uniform is good for discipline and that wearing it can stop competition in dress among the pupils.
