To cycle or not to cycle?
A Dear RAP,
Here in India we all use bicycles, I live in Bombay where there are 8 million inhabitants. Not many people have cars, so the bicycle is the best way to travel, I go to school by bicycle every day – a distance of 5 miles each way, so I keep very feet! Thanks for your great magazine.

B Hi there, RAP readers!
My name’s Vlad Semshov and I live in Moscow. I use a bicycle, but there aren’t many cyclists in this city. There are three problems. First — the pollution. When you’re on a bicycle, you breathe more dirty air — it’s really bad. The second problem is the traffic. Drivers tend to be very aggressive here, maybe because they spend a lot of time waiting in traffic jams every day. I think they’re jealous of us, cyclists! And the third problem is bicycle thieves. Last year I lost three bicycles! Three! They were all insured, so I got my money back, but it’s still a major problem. So, cycling isn’t easy in Moscow.
See y’all, Vlad
C G’day, RAP readers,
My name’s Betty Campbell and I live m Melbourne, Australia. I love cycling, but not in the city. It’s very dangerous, because car drivers don’t see you, and there are all sorts of other problems like tram lines and pedestrians who don’t look where they are going! No, I like cycling off-road and I’ve got a mountain bike. Outside Melbourne there are lots of places where you can ride cross country and not see a single car all day. It’s great!
Cheers, Betty
D Dear RAP magazine,
I’m Sally Walker and I live in Cambridge in England. We are very lucky in Cambridge, because there is a long-tradition of using bicycles here. We’ve got lots of cycle lanes and cycle parking areas in the centre, so we have no problem using bikes here. The only problem is the English weather — it rains a lot and no one likes cycling in the rain. When it rains I go to school by bus, but cycling is great when the weather’s fine.
Best wishes, Sally
