1) — Excuse me, I’m a reporter from “Early Times”. Could you answer a question for me, please? What are your impressions of Britain?
— I’ve been in Britain for about a month, but I never remember to look right instead of left before I cross the street. If I stay for a year, I still won’t remember. There must be a lot of accidents because the British have strange traffic rules. In Britain so many people have cars and use cars for short trips to the countryside that it leads to awful traffic jams. But what I like is the fact that the British are rather polite on the roads: they are often ready to make way for you and they always follow traffic rules.
— Thank you!
2) — Excuse me, I’m a reporter from “Early Times”. Could you answer a question for me? What are your impressions of Britain?
— Hm ... the English are very formal. They are friendly with cats and dogs, but they are very cold with people. They think that animals are better than people. They seem to be polite and friendly but in fact, it is difficult to get to know them well. Now I know for sure, though, that the British always keep their promises, and if one person doesn’t, he or she must have had a very good excuse. They just smile. If I don’t kiss and hug my friends in Spain, they will be very surprised.
— Thank you!
3) — Excuse me, I’m a reporter from “Early Times”. Could you answer a question for me? What are your impressions of Britain?
— Why do they queue so much? At a bus stop or in a post office they always stand in a line even if there’s only one other person. And besides I miss good weather and ... I haven’t tried good British food. There are many restaurants serving Italian, Indian, Chinese and other foreign food. These restaurants are becoming more and more popular.
— Thank you!
4) — Excuse me, I’m a reporter from “Early Times”. Could you answer a question for me? What are your impressions of Britain?
— My main impression is the people. The British are ... h’m ... cold and not very open. They talk about the weather, but never about anything personal. In general they think too much about their traditions, they live in the past. I like country people better than town people. They are more relaxed and more helpful. In the States it’s very different. We start conversations with people anywhere in the street and in the subway but the British don’t. Today the British have become less formal, though, they call each other by their first names without those awful Mr or Mrs.
— Thank you!
