Past Simple

Мы используем Past Simple, говоря о:

• прошлых привычках или состоянии

• завершенных действиях с временными словами (см ниже)

Past Continuous

Мы используем Past Continuous, говоря о:

• том, что было в процессе течение определенного периода времени в прошлом

• том, что происходило в середине другого действия или события в прошлом

Сравните:

— Послушай! Почему ты не отвечал на мои звонки вчера? Что ты делал в шесть часов вечера?

— Я ждал приемную семью на остановке метро в это время.

— Что вы делали c приемной семьей потом?

— Мы пошли в театр вместе.

— Надеюсь, что вам понравилось!

• something that was in progress during a period of time in the past

• something that was happening in the middle of some other action or event in the past

Compare:

— Listen! Why didntaskt you answer my phone calls yesterday afternoon? What were you doing at 6 pm?

— I was waiting for my host family at the tube station at that time.

— What did you do with your host family, then?

— We went to the theatre together.
