Ben: You were always the best-looking girl in the class!
Kate: Sorry, Ben. You’re talking to a married woman now!
Ben: Mm ... I suppose most people here are married now. Er, hi! I don’t think we know each other. Itaskm Ben. Er... Pleased to meet you!

Ben: So, Kate. When did you get married?
Kate: When I was 24, about 4 years ago. Do you remember Dave Wright from 4C?
Ben: Yeah ... I remember Dave. Why?
Kate: Well, he’s my husband. We’ve got two daughters now. The older one, Elizabeth, is starting school next year. How about you? Are you married?
Ben: Naa ... Still single ...
Kate: And what are you doing now? I remember when we were at school, you wanted to be a lawyer?
Ben: You’ve got a good memory!
Kate: Yes ... Oh, and how is your sister...

TRAIN YOUR BRAIN

c Think about the situation and try to guess what the people are going to talk about.
7 T028 Listen to Part 4 of the recording. What job is Ben doing now? Listen again. Are the statements true or false?
1 Jake isn’t interested in astronomy any more.
2 Jake is a father now.
3 At school, Ben’s plan was to be a lawyer.
4 Ben didn’t finish his university course.
5 Ben likes his job because the routine is the same every day.
6 Ben doesn’t like the people he works with.
7 When Ben was little, he wanted to be a postman.
Текст аудирования:
Ben: So Jake, are you still interested in astronomy?
Jake: You remember that?
Ben: Yeah. I used to go to your house after school and you used to show me your telescope.
Jake: Yeah. I’m still interested in astronomy. But I don’t really have time now. The kids go to bed early and I’m too tired to sit and look at stars now. What about you, Ben? You wanted to study Law, didn’t you?
Ben: Yeah! In fact, I studied law at university for a year and I hated it — it was so boring. So I dropped out of university and I became a motorcycle courier. That’s what I’m doing now.
Jake: Oh, really?
Ben: Yeah... It’s great actually — I like the job because every day is different and I don’t have the same routine. And the people I work with are fantastic!
Jake: Well, thattasks really important, isn’t it?
Ben: Yeah. And ittasks funny. I suppose it was my childhood ambition. When I was a little kid, I wanted to be a postman. You didn’t have to go to school and you could spend the day walking around the town with your big black bag, saying hello to everyone. And that’s what I’m doing now. I take letters and parcels across London on my motorbike.
Jake: Funny old world, isn’t it?

1 When you were a child, what job did you want to have?
2 What do you want to study in the future?

9 Work in groups. Imagine you are at a school reunion party in ten years’ time. Use the expressions in Exercise 3. Ask other people in the group:

A So, Mark, what job do you have now?
В I’m a pilot ...
