Future
We use going to and will to talk about the future.
We use going to when we can see (or hear) now what is certain to happen next and so we are quite sure about our future.
I’m not going to pass this exam. (I don’t know any of these answers!)
Oh no! It’s going to rain. (I can see the clouds.)
We use will/won’t for what we believe will happen in the future. Often we are only guessing.
The forecast says it won’t rain at the weekend. Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll find a job soon.

Technology
Look To The future
The Fruits of Technology
Look To The future asked our team of experts to make four predictions for the next twenty years.
1 The Internet
Experts all agree that in the near future the Internet will become more and more important. The most exciting changes will probably be in education. It’s possible that in the future each pupil will have a laptop – there probably won’t be paper or textbooks in thirty years and computers will certainly be cheaper! Students will go on day trips with their class to the Louvre in France or visit the Arctic Tundra – all by the Internet and virtual reality. Students will also communicate with teachers and students all over the world by video-conferencing. There are many advantages to this. For example, a class of British students learning French will have the chance to practice live with French students in a classroom in Paris.
2 Nanorobots
Nanorobots are tiny machines that can travel through our bodies and repair damage. Many scientists think that after 2020 they will probably be common in everyday life. For example, when you have a stomachache you can swallow a strawberry-flavoured robot that will make a video of the problems in your stomach. Then your doctor will watch the video and decide what the problem is.
3 Medicine
New drugs like Prozac® are very successful at the moment. Some people think that in the next decade there may be new medicines that will stop violent or antisocial ehavior. Experts believe this will certainly be cheaper than keeping people in prison. But this is very controversial –many people think it is wrong to use medicines to control people’s personalities and emotions.
4 New transport technology
Some people think that big family cars might disappear in the next thirty years. It is possible that cars will have space for only one or two people. Computers will drive the car for you – so, for example, you might ‘drive’ from Paris to London while you sleep! Petrol definitely won’t be cheaper in the future, so more and more cars will probably use solar energy instead of petrol.

Neighbour: Miss Nye! Miss Nye! Miss Nye!
Eve: Yes? What’s the matter?
Neighbour: I’m Mrs Jones from the flat downstairs. There’s water everywhere in my flat and it’s coming from upstairs from your flat. Please do something about it!
Eve: Oh, no! My washing machine. It’s flooded. There’s water everywhere! What am I going to do?! Neighbour: Phone somebody who can repair it And quickly!
Repairman: Miss Nye. I’m here to look at your washing machine.
Eve: Oh, thank goodness you’re here. Come in! The kitchen’s on the right — its in there.
Repairman: Well, that’s fixed, Miss Nye. Everything should be OK now.
Eve: Oh, brilliant! How can I ever thank you? Repairman: Well, that’ll be 50 pounds, please.
Eve: 50! But you were only in there for three minutes.
