GRAMMAR
First Conditional
There are two parts in a conditional sentence
1. the if clause gives you the condition; what may/might happen.
2. the will clause tells you what the result will be.
The two parts can be in any order: If we dontaskt go now, wetaskll be late. = We’ll be late if we dontaskt go now.
Use a comma(,) when the If clause is first.
We use the First Conditional for
situations/actions and their results: If ittasks sunny tomorrow, wetaskll go swimming.
promises: If you do well in your exams, I’ll buy you a bike.
threats: If you do that again. Itaskll phone the police!
warnings: If you touch that, youtaskll hurt yourself.
offers: If youtaskre going away, Itaskll feed your cat.
Mind the trap!
The First Conditional if clause is about the future, but always use the Present Simple, not will.
If it rains later... not if it will rain later...
11. Match the actions and the results. Write First Conditional sentences.
12. Look at the pictures. Use the prompts to write the superstitions. In some sentences the if clause is second.
