a) Джордж Вашингтон был первым президентом страны. Авраам Линкольн был другим популярным американским президентом. Американцы помнят его, потому что он был главой страны в трудное время американской гражданской войны. Их дни рождения были и в феврале, и американцы праздновали их вместе.

b) Это не официальный праздник, но это особый день. В этот день дети одеваются в костюмы ведьм, призраков, монстров и т. д. Окна многих домов украшены. Вечером дети идут из дома в дом, стучат в двери и говорят «кошелек или жизнь». Люди в домах обычно дают детям сладости или какое-то другое угощение.

c) Американцы празднуют этот праздник каждый год в ноябре. В этот день многие американцы посещают свои семьи и проводят традиционный большой ужин из индейки и разных овощей, сладкого картофеля и тыквенного пирога. Все вместе они говорят спасибо Богу и друг другу за помощь, как это делали первые поселенцы в 17 веке, когда они собирались, чтобы устроить праздник с коренными американцами.

d) Это важное время для дарения подарков. Люди начинают покупать подарки задолго до празднования. Многие семьи выставляют и украшают елку и делают специальные печенья. Маленькие дети думают, что их подарки от Деда Мороза.

a) George Washington was the country’s first president. Abraham Lincoln was another popular American president. b) This is not an official holiday but it is a very special day. On this day children dress in costumes of witches, ghosts, monsters, etc. The windows of many houses have decorations. In the evening the children go from house to house, knock on doors and say “trick or treat”. The people in the houses usually give the children sweets or some other treat.

c) Americans celebrate this holiday every year in November. On this day a lot of Americans visit their families and have a traditional big dinner of turkey and different vegetables, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. All together they say thank you to God and to each other for help, as the first settlers did in the 17th century, when they gathered to have a feast1 with the Native Americans.

d) This is an important time for giving presents. People begin buying presents long before the celebration. Many families put up and decorate a fir tree and make special cookies. Small children think that their presents come from Santa Claus.
