А теперь представь, что физические проблемы вашей деформации незначительны по сравнению с эмоциональными проблемами, а другие смеются или избегают вас из-за вашего странного вида. Наконец, представь, что все твои проблемы могут быть решены путем одной простой операции, которая может изменить не только твое лицо, но и всю твою жизнь; но твоя семья слишком бедна, чтобы заплатить за эту операцию...

И тут приходит «Операция “Улыбка”». Основанная в 1982 году пластическим хирургом Уильямом Маггом и его женой Кэтлин, «Операция «Улыбка”» - это благотворительная организация, которая посылает команды медиков-волонтеров в развивающиеся страны для лечения детей с дефектами лица.

This is where Operation Smile comes in. Founded in 1982 by plastic surgeon William Magee and his wife Kathleen, Operation Smile is a charity that sends teams of medical volunteers to developing nations is to treat children with facial deformities.

The idea for Operation Smile came to William and Kathleen when they were in the Philippines with a group of doctors to operate on some children with disfigured faces. When they arrived, they came upon hundreds of children with facial deformities - far 20 too many than they could help on one trip.

William and Kathleen knew that they could not just forget about these children. So, when they got back to the USA, they started Operation Smile. Their mission? To ensure every child in the world is 25 given a chance to smile.

To date, Operation Smile has repaired the faces of more than 120,000 children worldwide. The Magee’s have faced many challenges along the way. Principal among these is raising the money to keep their зо volunteer work going. But the thousands of happy faces have been a reward that makes the doctorstask hard efforts all the more worthwhile
