В настоящее время профессиональное образование является компонентом формального образования (1) в большинстве стран. За последние 50 лет число учащихся средних школ во всем мире увеличилось с 40 до 400 миллионов. В развивающихся странах размеры классов стали действительно большими. В Судане средняя школа (2) насчитывает в среднем 50 учащихся. В Доминиканской Республике, Малайзии, Вьетнаме и Филиппинах средний показатель превышает 40. Это расширение влияет на качество преподавания. Каждый год почти треть учащихся в Латинской Америке вынуждены повторять один класс.

Все согласны с тем, что среднее образование должно меняться и развиваться. Но в каком направлении (3) оно должно развиваться? Чтобы ответить на этот вопрос, люди должны понять, какова (4) цель школьного обучения. Образование не может оставаться чисто академическими, когда вы имеете дело со студентами, которые не намерены поступать в вуз. Educating Teenagers

Nowadays secondary education is the component of formal education (1) in most countries. The number of secondary school students has grown from 40 to 400 million worldwide over the past 50 years. In developing countries class sizes have become really big. In Sudan, secondary school classes (2) have an average of 50 students. In the Dominican Republic, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines, the average is more than 40. This expansion affects the quality of teaching. Each year, almost a third of the pupils have to repeat a grade in Latin America.

All agree that secondary education must change and develop. But in what direction (3) should it develop? To answer the question people are to understand what (4) the purpose of schooling is. Teaching cannot continue to be purely academic when you are dealing with students who do not intend to enter university. In other words, academic disciplines can no longer be (5) the only subject taught. Schools must know how to interest students in the world around them. We must develop skills that will help them fulfill their potential as future citizens including a critical spirit, initiative, the ability to organize projects and to communicate. By making school curricula more work-oriented, we will avoid having young people enter the job market without (6) any real skills.
