Listening
1 Listen to the dialogue and answer the questions. Don’t worry if you don’t understand all the words.
• What’s wrong with the patient?
• What are the reasons for his health problems?
Текст аудирования:
Doctor: So Stuart, what’s the problem?
Stuart: [Estuary English accent] Well, Doctor, I don’t know really. I’m not sleeping very well and I just can’t relax.
Doctor: Well, ... let’s have a look at you then. ... Oh, dear.
Stuart: Am I going to die, Doctor?
Doctor: Oh, no, no, no, no. It’s not that bad, but if I were you, I’d stop spending so much time in that gym. Stuart: But I thought it was good for you.
Doctor: Well, exercise is good for you but not fourteen hours a day, Stuart. Your body is exhausted!
Stuart: But what am I going to do? I mean that gym ... it ... it’s my life!
Doctor: Why don’t you get some fresh air? You can still take some exercise at the same time — a brisk walk or jogging, for example. When your brain doesn’t get enough fresh oxygen, it’s difficult for it to cope with stress, which is why you feel nervous and tired.
Stuart: Walking?
Doctor: Or jogging, if you prefer. And look — take this booklet — it’s got some information about some basic relaxation techniques ... Just very simple things you can do to help you to relax.
Stuart: Relaxation techniques ... Isn’t that for girls? Doctor: No ... I’m sure it will help you. Well, that’s everything!
Stuart: Thanks for your help, Doctor.
2 Listen again to the context these words are used in. Then decide what part of speech each word is - noun, verb or adjective.

Doctor: Well, Miss Prym, what can I do for you this time?
Miss Prym: Oh, Dr Price, it’s my hip again — it’s very uncomfortable when I walk.
Doctor: And how long have you had this?
Miss Prym: Well, it started last Sunday. Oh, Doctor, it’s terrible ... Sometimes the pain is so unbearable that I don’t know what to do.
Doctor: Well, I’ll write you a prescription for some medicine. They’re painkillers and they’re quite strong, so you might feel a bit sleepy. Here you are then, Miss Prym. Take one tablet twice a day. It’s best to swallow it with a glass of water.
Miss Prym: And these painkillers, will I get them in my local chemist?
Doctor: Oh, yes, take the prescription to any chemist. I’m sure they’ll have them.
6 Compare your answers to Exercise 5 with a partner. Listen again. Then check your answers in a dictionary.
