Текст аудирования:
A: I visited a few chat rooms when I was younger because all my friends were talking about them, but I didn’t like it. I think it’s really strange to have conversations with people that you’ve never met — you don’t know who they are, what they look like, if they are telling the truth or anything. I’ve never visited a lonely hearts website — again, I think it’s just too risky. If you met a girlfriend or boyfriend on a website, you wouldn’t know anything about their family or background. They could tell you all sorts of lies. I know some people think it’s a trendy way of making new friends, but it’s definitely not for me.
B: I use the Internet mostly for homework. It’s great being able to access so much information — for example, if you type in something like ‘global warming’ you get more than 46 million results! I suppose that’s sometimes a problem — there’s so much information and you can’t always trust the website to be accurate. I usually go back to sites which I know are reliable and if I’m not sure about a fact, I check it in at least two other places. I’ve been doing the research for my science project and I’ve found some interesting discussion groups. I really can’t imagine having to go to a library to get information! It seems so slow and old-fashioned.
C: No, I don’t buy anything from the Internet — partly because I like to see things first and partly because I don’t have my own credit card. Last year I tried to buy some cinema tickets in advance with my dad’s credit card but changed my mind when they wanted me to pay extra for booking on the Internet. My mum sometimes buys clothes, but I haven’t got the confidence to know what I look good in until I try something on.
D: Every day! I’m always looking up things and comparing prices. Now I’m a student and living away from home I need to save money, so I use it a lot to search for the best prices. For example, I’ve found a really good coach service between my university and my home town and it’s much cheaper if you buy your ticket online. What else? I sometimes buy secondhand books for my studies, although I prefer to borrow from the library.
