1 Look at the table. How do you say for and since in your language? Do you use the present perfect with these expressions?
For and since
We use for to talk about a period of time.
He’s been there for three days.
We use since to talk about a point in time.
He’s been there since Saturday.
2 Complete the text with for or since.
Ian has only learnt German (1) for a year, but he’s learnt French (2) for a long time. He’s had French lessons at school (3) since he was nine. Ian has also learnt a bit of Chinese (4) since he watched the Beijing Olympics. He’s been at Summer Camp (5) for a few days now. but he hasn’t practiced his Chinese (6) since he arrived!
