Finishing school at 16? Don’t know what to do next? An apprenticeship could be the answer.
What is an apprenticeship?
If you do an apprenticeship, you’ll combine work with studies. You’ll earn money while you learn new skills. There are apprenticeships in different sectors, depending on your interests. They last up to two years.
Will I get any qualifications?
Yes! You’ll get a certificate. You’ll learn skills like teambuilding or using new technology. Each apprenticeship also awards its own qualification.
How do I apply?
You can find an application form on the website or go to your local council office. Some people contact employers directly. If there is a business in your area where you’d like to work, phone them and ask about apprenticeships.
What about money and holidays?
You get a basic wage of 40 pounds a week. But you could get more, depending on your employer. You’ll get at least 1.5 days’ paid holiday for every month of training. On top of that you’ll get bank holidays.
