Cumulative grammar
1 Circle the correct words.
Tom: What would you do if you (1) won a million pounds?
Lisa: That’s easy. (2) I’d travel around the world. What about you? (3) What would you do?
Tom: I’d choose a few different charity organizations and give each of them a few thousand pounds. Then I’d (4) build a house for myself.
Lisa: Why not buy one?
Tom: Because if I (5) built my own house I would install ecological heating and lighting. I (6) wouldn’t use anything that could harm the planet.
Lisa: If we (7) hadn’t destroyed the ozone layer, we wouldn’t need to be so careful now.
Tom: Exactly.
Lisa: You worry too much, Tom. If you (8) weren’t so serious all the time, you’d enjoy life much more.
Tom: I know! I know!
Lisa: Let’s make a pact. If I win the lottery, (9) I’ll use half of the money to save the planet. If you (10) win the lottery, youtaskll use half of the money to have a good time!
Tom: OK. But there’s only one problem.
Lisa: What’s that?

2.31 Listen to an extract from a radio programme about saving energy.
Текст аудирования:
Todaytasks programme is all about energy - and, more importantly - how to save energy. In a recent study, we discovered that Britain is one of the worst countries in Europe when it comes to wasting energy. Lefs see what we can do to change that! We can start by making simple changes in our own homes. If you have a computer in your bedroom, you probably leave it on all day. It isntaskt practical to turn it on and off all day, but if you turn the monitor off when you are not using it, you will save energy. Mobile phone chargers are another problem. If we all disconnected our chargers when we are not using them, we could save enough electricity every year to provide energy to 115,000 homes. That’s a lot of electricity.
And what about light bulbs? Energy-saving light bulbs use 80% less electricity and last 10 times longer than normal bulbs. So if all families in the UK replaced one normal light bulb with an energy efficient light bulb, it would make a huge difference. Washing machines use a lot of energy too. If you wash your clothes at 30 degrees instead of 40 degrees, you will use 40% less energy and you wontaskt notice any difference in your washing! Now lets ...
