Lance Armstrong, the American former professional cyclist, won the Tour de France a record seven times between 1999 and 2005 before being disqualified in 2012 from those races and banned from cycling for life for doping. Armstrong is one of the most famous cyclists ever. But he (1) must be a very strong person too. Lance started competing as a child and when he was 13 he (2) could compete against adults in triathlons. In 1996 he (3) had to stop cycling when he was diagnosed with cancer. He (4) couldn’t participate again until 1998. He wrote a book about his experience. In it, he says that you (5) can’t give up. You (6) have to overcome problems however big they are. After overcoming cancer, Lance started a campaign called Livestrong. The campaign’s message is that you (7) don’t have to be afraid of cancer - you (8) have to fight it! You (9) can find out more about it on: www.livestrong.com.

2.43 Listen to somebody talking about Helen Keller.
Текст аудирования:
In 1904, Helen Keller was the first deaf and blind person to graduate from university. It was an amazing achievement for an amazing woman. When Helen was a baby she became very ill. The illness did not last a long time but when she recovered, her parents realized that she had lost her sight and her hearing. Her parents were convinced she would never be able to communicate with them.
However, an encounter with a woman called Anne Sullivan changed Helenatasks life forever. Anne Sullivan was born with very poor sight. She wasntaskt blind but she could see very little. 21-year-old Anne became Helentasks teacher although she had no experience of teaching deaf-blind children. Within weeks of their first lesson, six-year-old Helen learnt the sign for her first word: water. A few hours later, Helen could recognize the signs for 30 new words including taskteachertask. This was the start of a life-long friendship that would continue until Annetasks death in 1936.
Helen achieved many things during her life. She graduated from Radcliffe College, wrote many books and travelled the world raising money for the blind. Helen was also a political enthusiast and in 1913 she wrote a series of essays on socialism which outlined her own political views.
Despite Helentasks success in overcoming her disabilities, her greatest dream of being able to talk was never achieved. However, Helen Keller is truly a person who succeeded against the odds.
