Ryan: Hi, my name’s Ryan. At the beginning of every school year, our students visit the nearest park for a day-long picnic together. It is called Field Day. It starts with the Pledge of Allegiance and includes events as running races, baseball, and badminton. There are also a lot of funny activities as potato sack races and the lame dog walk. It is brilliant to take part and to watch. Field Day is always one of the real highlights of the school year and a great tradition which I hope carries on for many years.
Angela: I’m Angela. Every year in spring, we celebrate Children’s Book Week. Last time, as part of Children’s Book Week, we were lucky to have a visit by the author Rachel Anderson. She has written over twenty books and has won some awards for her works. She told us about how she got her ideas and answered a lot of questions on her writing. During the week, we visited book exhibition at our local library. We also made an excursion to the theatre to watch a live performance of Shakespeare’s plays we have studied at school. Children’s Book Week proved to be a successful event.
Andrew: My name’s Andrew. Yesterday, the pupils from our school were excited to welcome Rick Fines to our school. Rick is one of the leading blues guitarists and a two-time winner of the Blues Award of he Year. He has won many other awards and recognitions. Rick organised song writing class with various group of students. He also told us about the history of blues music and rock’n’roll. We had a wonderful opportunity to explore the art of Blues Music with a true celebrity.
Tanya: My name’s Tanya. Our school offered students a unique and exciting opportunity to spend some time with astronaut Chris Hadfield. He presented us his various pictures and told us about the experiences working as a Canadian astronaut. We also had a large multimedia assembly in our school gym which allowed us to have live contact with the space station as it flew over the area. The students asked the astronauts lots of questions, and their answers were in real time, and very clear to hear and understand. I’m so proud I had this wonderful opportunity. It was a pleasure meeting a celebrity in Canadian history and to learn about space explorations.
Frank: I’m Frank. The students at my school have some special activities to celebrate the end of each school year. We go down the river on a boat called “The Ugly Duckling”. Usually we do what any normal students would do. We eat candy, play volleyball, go swimming and provoke water fights. Last time we went on the river picnic, two tents were ruined, many people were wet and laughed and cried, but we came back home happy and excited. We have never amused ourselves more. I think that this is what unites me with my classmates.
