Станция

Я до сих пор хорошо помню эти события. Мы путешествуем на поезде - из окна мы видим, как (1) дети машут нам, овец на далеком склоне холма, поля кукурузы и пшеницы, равнины и долины, горы и города.

Но то, о чём мы думали, это о конечном пункте назначения. В определенный день мы прибудем на станцию. Будет играть оркестр и флаги развеваться, (2) как только мы туда доберемся, наши мечты сбудутся. Поэтому мы ждем, ждем, ждем станцию.

"Когда мы доберемся до станции, произойдет это!” - кричим мы. “Когда мне исполнится 18". "Когда я куплю автомобиль". "Когда я закончу колледж''. "Когда я найду работу, (3) я буду жить долго и счастливо!”

Рано или поздно мы начинаем понимать, что станции нет, (4) некуда ехать. Истинная радость жизни - это путешествие. Станция - всего лишь мечта. "Наслаждайся моментом" - хорошая идея. Не сегодняшние трудности сводят нас с ума. А чувство грусти по поводу того, что произошло вчера (5) и страх перед завтрашним днем. Грусть и страх не позволяют нам наслаждаться сегодняшним днем.

Так что хватит считать мили и (6) ждать станции. Вместо этого, взбирайтесь на горы, ешьте больше мороженого, ходите по траве, плавайте в реках, (7) наблюдайте закаты, больше смейтесь, меньше плачьте. Нужно жить моментом. Станция скоро прибудет.

The Station

I can still see those events clearly in my mind’s eye. We are travelling by train — out of the window we drink in the passing scenes of (1) children waving to us, sheep on a distant hillside, fields of corn and wheat, flatlands and valleys, mountains and cities.

But what we are thinking about is the final destination. On a certain day we will arrive at the station. An orchestra will be playing and flags waving (2) once we get there, our dreams will come true. So we are waiting, waiting, waiting for the station.

“When we reach the station, that will be it!” we cry. “When I’m 18. ” “When I buy a car. ” “When I leave college. ” “When I get a job, (3) I shall live happily ever after!”

Sooner or later, we begin to understand there is no station, (4) no one place to arrive. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. “Enjoy the moment” is a good idea. It isn’t the hardships of today that make us mad. It is the feeling of sadness about what happened yesterday (5) and the fear of tomorrow. Sadness and fear do not allow us to enjoy today.
