2. Listen to the interview, (6), and complete the statements below.
Текст аудирования:
— Hello, everybody, arid welcome to our programme. Today the guest to our studio is Emily Harper, a young girl from England who has just returned from Australia. Hi, Emily! Nice to see you. Thanks for coming.
— Hello, everybody! I’m honoured to be here.
— So what are your impressions of the country?
— The first thing I noticed after arriving in Australia from England was, of course, the cliinate, I left England on the 15th of January with snow, wind and minus twelve degrees. I stepped off the plane to be met with thirty degrees heat and bright sunshine.
— That was unexpected, wasn’t it?
— It was. I dreamed about beautiful beaches and swimming, and travelling around in perfect weather. However, my enthusiasm was quickly reduced.
— What do you mean?
— I could see warnings on notice boards everywhere. Something like, “Don’t risk your life! Large crocodiles inhabit these waters” or “Don’t enter the water because of deadly jellyfish”.
— Yes, crocks, spiders, snakes and jellyfish can be dangerous and one should be careful about them.
— By the way, Australians themselves do not take the threat of these dangers too seriously. In fact, their biggest worry is the sun. They do their best to protect themselves from the ultraviolet rays of the sun.
— And what can you say about Australians themselves?
— Australians, or Aussies, are extremely friendly and willing to help. Especially in the outback.
— What is the outback?
— Oh, that’s the part of Australia which is far away from the cities. On those territories the phrase of “G’day, mate” is followed by a smile and the question “Can I help?” which is quite different from the British.
— Did you like the food?
— The food generally is delicious, and it is easy to put on weight with all the “barbies” (this is the name they give to barbecues) and “sangers” (this is the way they call sandwiches). A totally unique delicacy are kangaroo, or roo, burgers which apparently taste like chicken. In fact, that was an amazing country to explore.
