Текст аудирования:
— Wendy, I know you and Gregory are great travellers. Where have you been besides Italy?
— To lots of places, to Australia and New Zealand, for instance, the USA, Greece, France and Russia.
— Even Russia? When were you there and how long did you stay?
— We went to Moscow last June, spent a week doing the city, then we visited St Petersburg and the beautiful palaces and parks around the northern capital of Russia. All in all fifteen days in the country.
— What do you think of Russia?
— Well, that stay was one of the most enjoyable experiences we’ve had. We liked the people very much, friendly and hospitable, always ready to help. I will never forget the beautiful ballet we were shown at the Bolshoi. It was “Swan Lake”. Believe me, it’s absolutely unforgettable.
— Have you ever been to South America?
— No, but we’ve been to North America twice. In 2008 we had a journey about New England and in 2013 we visited Mexico. We arrived there in November just on the day when Mexicans celebrate the Day of the Dead.
— Is it something like Halloween?
— I wouldn’t say that. According to their tradition it’s the day when spirits of the dead return to their homes and stay for a short time with their families and friends.
— But how do the people learn that the spirits have arrived?
— They don’t know, they believe. And like all guests dead spirits are welcomed with food, drink, stories and memories.
— Do they prepare anything special for the day?
— Yes, a special kind of sweet bread and tasty desserts are cooked. Friends and family members give each other gifts — sugar skeletons and skulls.
— That seems a bit strange and sad.
— Believe it or not, theretasks nothing sad about this holiday. It simply reflects the Indian belief that death is a natural part of life. The Indian holiday became a Catholic one when the Spanish brought their religion to Mexico.
— Is this festival popular?
— It is. Every year it becomes more and more popular.
