You have had a class discussion about the negative effects of tourism on your town. Now your teacher las asked you to write an essay based on the following question: Our town suffers from the negative effects of tourism. What are they and how can they be solved?
Write your essay (200-250 words).
Our town is very popular with tourists, especially in summer.
Unfortunately, tourism has had some negative effects on the area We have a number of problems, such as litter, traffic congestion and a lack of car parks.
First, let us examine the litter problem. One solution would be to pay our road sweepers overtime to work extra hours during the tourist season. This would make a big deference when our town is at its busiest
Then there is the problem of traffic congestion. A useful suggestion would be to set up a park-and-ride scheme. This way, tourists and locals could leave their cars outside the town and use a specially provided bus service. This would be relatively simple to set up and would provide a long-term solution.
Finally, we come to the lack of car parks. It would be a good idea to build a multi-storey car park in the town centre. This would be the most costly solution but would alleviate the problem of parking during busy periods.
To sum up, there are a number of possible solutions to our town’s problems of litter, traffic jams and shortage of parking areas. By implementing these suggestions, we can enjoy the benefits of tourism in our town without having to suffer the less desirable aspects. Therefore, the sooner action is taken the better.
