I am writing to complain about
I was quite disappointed with
She didn’t offer an explanation
Moreover
Dear Sir/Madam,
1) I am writing to complain about the package holiday which I have just returned from. First of all, 2) I was quite disappointed with some of the facilities and services at the hotel. 3) Contrary to the information in your brochure the hotel was not luxurious. For one thing, the swimming pool at the hotel was still under construction and the rooms were also much smaller than I had expected. 4) Moreover, although the brochure described the tour reps as helpful and friendly, I found our rep to be rather rude and unhelpful at times. Not only was she very late meeting us at the airport but she also failed to find out some information about a local attraction that we had asked her for. 5) She didn’t offer an explanation or apologise for either of these things.
6) I feel that I am entitled to an explanation for these problems, as well as an apology. 7) I hope to hear from you as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Matthew Riddle
b) What is the writer complaining about? What examples/reasons does the writer give?
7 Fill in the gaps with the words/phrases from the list to make clauses of concession.
In spite of the fact
but
Nevertheless
Despite
1 Despite calling to speak to the manager three times, each time he has failed to return my call.
2 I ordered the tickets three weeks before the concert. Nevertheless, by the morning of the concert, they had still not arrived.
3 The information on the box said that batteries were included, but when I opened it there were none there.
4 In spite of the fact the brochure said that all rooms had a nice view, our room looked onto a car park.
