Ginny: I never realised how exciting it would be! I’d got it as a birthday present from my workmates and at first had been a bit doubtful about it - it was never something I’d thought of doing even though I love an adventure! But I never refuse a new experience, so off I went last Saturday. First of all, the instructor gave me an introduction - showing me how everything worked and so on - I immediately felt I was in safe hands. Then we took off and started flying towards the coast. It wasntaskt like being in an aeroplane at all -you can see everything below you - it’s like being a bird - wonderful! But the best part was when I took the controls and flew for about fifteen minutes. It was the most incredible sensation I’ve ever had! I felt so confident - as if I’d been a helicopter pilot all my life! So now I plan to take helicopter lessons - and who knows? Maybe make a career change!
Two
Hugo: It was a friend who suggested it because she knew I had a big phobia about them - a real hang up. I always have, since I was a kid. I was never sure why but I had always thought it had something to do with Tanzania. My dad was working in Africa when I was born - and I spent the first five years of my life running around in the bush, going on safari with my family, things like that. There must have been loads of them around all the time, but I can’t remember any horrible stories - even though I’ve tried to. Anyway, I finally agreed to go and it was such a life changing experience! Tanya, the trainer, was marvellous. She was very gentle and sympathetic and showed me how to pick them up and hold them. And she didn’t make me do anything until I was ready. I was sweating so much my shirt was soaking wet! But when I finally held a snake in my hand, I felt a huge sense of relief and achievement. Now I feel I can do anything! It’s a fantastic feeling of freedom ...
