One of them 2) came from Arsena Ianeva-Lockney - a native Bulgarian who 3) has been working as a German teacher for quite a long time now. In fact, by the end of this year, she 4) will have been in the teaching profession for ten years. Although she is a language teacher, Arsena 5) has experienced numerous misunderstandings herself. During one of her first stays in Germany, she 6) was sharing a flat with a German girl. One day her roommate 7) offered her some chocolate. ‘Ja,’ said Arsena, at which point the roommate promptly 8) removed the chocolate from the table. Arsena later 9) realised that she 10) had used body language which, she now 11) believes, may be unique to Bulgarians and Greeks. Realising the importance of nonverbal conununication, Arsena 13) (has) decided to address this issue. Currently, she 14) is preparing a series of workshops on the dangers of not learning the body language of another culture. She 15) hopes that she 16) will draw attention to this often ignored aspect of conununication and that all language teachers 17) will teach body language in their courses. It is estimated that about thirty percent, of German teachers from Sofia 18) will have attended Arsena’s training by July. Hopefully, this time next year most of them 19 ) will be implementing her ideas in their own classrooms.
