Мне сказали купить специальное кислотоупорное напольное покрытие в нашу химическую лабораторию. Это напольное покрытие очень дорогое, и я должен знать, какое точное количество, т.е. сколько квадратных метров надо купить. Проблема состоит в том, что в настоящее время много химического оборудования есть в лаборатории, и я не в праве дотронуться до чего-либо, так, я могу измерить длину лаборатории — 12 метров, но не могу измерить ее ширину. Также я могу измерить расстояние от дверного угла до угла окна (13 метров), но это, кажется, не поможет, не так ли?

Мне нужна помощь! Я не хочу, чтобы мой начальник подумал, что я глуп и уволит меня!

According to Jerry's request, we need to find out the area of the room.

A picture of the room will help us. We can see from the plan that the room is a rectangle, let’s draw it.

We know the value of one side of the room (let it be side a), and the distance between the opposite corners (let's draw this line — c). but we don't know the other side — b.

To find the area of the rectangle we can apply the formula

S = ab where side b is unknown.

However, we have the line between the opposite corners, which makes two triangles for us.

Sides a, b and c form a right triangle where c is the hypotenuse and a and b are the legs of the triangle.

Now we can apply Pythagoras’ Theorem (it's also often called Pythagorean Theorem).

a2 + b2 = c2 (the sum of the squares of lengths of the legs is equal to the square of the length of the hypotenuse)

and find out the value for b

b = корень(c2-a2)

The final formula for the area of the rectangle is

S = a корень(с2-а2)

If we put numbers instead of the letters, we get

S = 60

The calculated result is 60.

Solution: The area of the laboratory is sixty square metres. Jerry needs to buy sixty square metres of the floor covering.

I was told to buy a special acid-resistant floor covering for our chemical laboratory. This floor covering is very expensive and l need to know the exact quantity, i.e. how many square metres to buy. The problem is that theretasks Iots of chemical equipment in the Iab at the moment, and Itaskm not allowed to touch anything. So, I can measure the length of the Iab — ittasks 12 metres, but cantaskt measure its width. I can also measure the distance from the door comer to the window corner (ittasks 13 metres), but it doesntaskt seem to help much, does it?

I need help! I dontaskt want my boss to think that Itaskm stupid and fire me!
