The UN (The United Nations) is one of the international organizations that protect human rights. Established in 1945 by 50 states (France, the Soviet Union, UK, the USA and so on), now it's made up of 192 members. The UN has 6 official languages including English, Russian, Spanish, French, etc. It was founded after World War II in order to prevent other dangerous wars and conflicts and keep the peace and secure on the Earth. This organization has the UN Charter and all members must comply with all obligations under the articles of association. The UN headquarters building was designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer and constructed in New York in 1949. There are a lot of the United Nations offices located in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria and many other countries around the world. The UN members enforce the terms of peace agreements. This organization provides shelter, food, drinking water and other humanitarian aid to people suffering from natural disasters, famine or displaced by armed conflicts in their own country. Besides, the main activities are aimed at protecting the environment, fostering social and economic development and promoting rights and freedoms of people all over the world.

ООН (Организация Объединенных Наций) является одной из международных организаций, которая защищает права человека. Основанная в 1945 году 50 государствами (Франция, СССР, Великобритания, США и т д), в настоящее время она состоит из 192 членов. ООН имеет 6 официальных языков, включая английский, русский, испанский, французский и т.д. Она была основана после Второй мировой войны в целях предупреждения других опасных войн и конфликтов и сохранения мира и безопасности на Земле. Эта организация имеет Устав ООН, и все члены должны соблюдать все обязательства в соответствии с уставом. Здание штаб-квартиры ООН было построено по проекту архитектора Оскара Нимейера в Нью-Йорке в 1949 году. 1> Think about how often you drink clean water, eat food, go to school or university, say or write what you think, and practise your religion (or not). These are all basic human rights, or things that you are morally or legally entitled) to do or have. They are the same for everyone, regardless of sex, age, race, nationality or social class. They are extremely important, as they are about recognising the value and dignity of all people, everywhere and at all times!

3> On December 10th, 1948, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in New York. It has thirty articles and protects the right to life, work, housing, free thought and many other things. Since 1948, nearly every country in the world has signed one or more agreements designed to protect the rights in the UDHR.

4> Unfortunately, just because the UDHR exists, it does not mean that human rights are never violated! In some countries, for example, children work in unsafe conditions or are denied the right to go to school. In others, people are in prison because of their political views. For this reason, there are many charities and organisations in the world that fight for human rights. Probably the most well known of these is Amnesty International.
