Человек существует на этой земле очень, очень долго. Тем не менее, за всю его долгую историю, самые большие изменения в его повседневной жизни произошли только за последние 200 лет! Это изменение в образе жизни и деятельности человека основано на развитии машин и называется промышленной революцией.

Еще издавна человек делал инструменты, но не машины. Только после 1750 года были изобретены настоящие машины. Машина подобна инструменту, за исключением того, что она выполняет почти всю работу и использует почти всю мощность. Этот переход от инструментов к машинам был настолько важен, что это начало влиять на каждую фазу нашей жизни.

Для управления новыми машинами человек изобрел и разработал новый источник энергии - пар. Это дало возможность строить заводы. По мере того как машины использовались все больше и больше, возросла потребность в большем количестве железа и стали. И для этого были необходимы новые методы добычи угля. Затем, поскольку машины могли выпускать все больше и больше товаров, необходимо было улучшить транспорт, чтобы отправлять их на рынки. Это приводило к улучшению дорог, строительству каналов и железных дорог. Появились корабли, которые доставляли некоторые из этих продуктов на отдаленные рынки.

И, наконец, промышленная революция дала возможность производить дешевые товары в большом количестве, которые каждый мог себе позволить.

Man has been around on this earth for a long, long time. Yet in all his long history, the biggest change in his (l) daily life has taken place in only the last 200 years! This change in the way man lives and works is based on the development of machines and is called the Industrial Revolution.
