30. Open the brackets and make the story complete.
Safari for Pensioners When Sam was sixty-five, he (1) retired from his job in an office where he (2) had been working for 35 years. He always (3) had been interested in wild animals, so one day he decided to go to a safari park — a place where wild animals (4) were not kept in cages, but in large open spaces. There visitors could watch animals, (5) running free. Sam had a friend, William by name. When William (6) heard about Sam’s plans, he said that he (7) had been dreaming to visit a safari park for many years and would go there with Sam. He wanted to know how much the entrance to the park (8) would cost them. “Generally it (9) costs five pounds each,” answered Sam, “but if we (10) show our pension cards, we (11) shall be able to get in at half price.” “It (12) doesn’t sound too bad,” William exclaimed. At the moment William (13) was doing a part-time job (14) looking after game machines. He had a lot of coins as he (15) took small change from the machines. He thought he (16) would get rid of some of the coins by using them in the safari park. The two men arrived at the park soon after nine o’clock in the morning and saw a lot of people queuing for tickets. They could hear lions (17) roaring inside the park. By ten o’clock their turn (18) had come and William (19) put a handful of small coins in front of the surprised ticket seller. “There you are,” he said. “Good heavens,” the ticket seller said, “how long you poor old gentlemen (20) have been saving up to come to the safari park?”
