1 What is the situation in the picture? What are the women saying? Listen to Part 1 of the conversation and check.
Текст аудирования:
Part 1
Beth: Hi Rosie, come in. Wow! You look great! Have you lost weight?
Rosie: Yes, I have … ten pounds in fact. I’ve been on this new diet, it’s really fan …
Beth: Oh no! Look at all this food. We’re having roast chicken and chips, and I even remembered to get your favourite cheesecake. I didn’t know that …
Rosie: Oh, sorry, I forgot to tell you.
2 T020 Listen to Part 2 and answer the questions.
1 What are the taskrulestask of Rosietasks diet?
2 What does Beth think of the diets Rosie has done?
Текст аудирования:
Rosie: Oh, sorry, I forgot to tell you. But anyway, it doesn’t matter, because I haven’t stopped eating cheesecake, or anything else, for that matter.
Beth: Really? What kind of crazy diet are you doing, then?
Rosie: Well, it’s called the Caveman diet, because it’s based on the eating patterns of our ancestors in the Stone Age. They went out hunting all day and only stopped to eat one big meal in the evening, then ate nothing for the next twenty-four hours. Mmm … the chicken smells delicious!
Beth: Uhuh …
Rosie: So … so you can eat whatever you want, as long as it’s between fi ve and seven in the evening. Kind of like having breakfast, lunch and dinner all at once.
Beth: Well, it’s hard to believe, but you’re a walking advertisement for it, however it works! And it even sounds as if you like doing it.
Rosie: Yes, I do. It’s the best diet I’ve been on, and I’ve been trying to lose weight for ages, haven’t I?
Beth: Yeah … I’ll never forget going shopping with you when you were on that Beverly Hills diet — I didn’t know one person could eat that much fruit in a week! And then there was the cabbage soup diet … Huh! By the way, do you remember saying that you wouldn’t do any more of these fad diets because they’re not based on scientific evidence?
Rosie: But it’s not a ‘fad’ diet, that’s the point. There’s been research …
Beth: OK, OK, I’m only teasing. But maybe we should have dinner — it’s twenty to seven …
Rosie: Oh, yes, I’ve only got twenty minutes.
3 T012 Listen to Part 3. Why does Rosie insist on clearing up after the meal?
Текст аудирования:
Part 3
Rosie: Mmm, that was great.
Beth: Sure you don’t want another piece of cheesecake?
Rosie: No, I can’t. It’s ten past seven …
Beth: Leave the plates, Rosie, I’ll clear up later.
Rosie: Oh no, I always like to clear up straight after a meal. I mean, it’s horrible to come back to all that mess later, isn’t it? Besides, you’ve got a dishwasher, you lucky thing.
Beth: Yeah, it’s great.
Rosie: Um … But it doesn’t seem to be working. I’ve put the powder in …
Beth: Have you tried turning it on? Here, let me see …
Rosie: Oh! Silly me …
Beth: OK, good, it’s working. Rosie? Are you eating something? Hey, where’s the rest of that cheesecake?
