Writing: A letter of advice
A Read this letter that was sent to a problem page in a teen magazine. In pairs, come up with some suggestions for Mary.
Dear Rosanne...
This year Itaskm in my final year at school. Up until last year I played in a volleyball team, but gave it up because I didntaskt have the time to attend all the games and the training. I spend my time studying for exams and I find myself snacking on crisps and anything salty. Mum keeps complaining that my eating habits will make me sick.
What can I snack on instead and how can I keep fit without spending too much time doing so? Can anyone help?
Stressed out,
Mary
Suggestions:
В Now read this letter of advice for Mary. Were any of your suggestions mentioned?
Dear Mary,
A
I read your letter in Teen Magazine and Itaskd like to make some suggestions which I think could help you.
B
Firstly, you say youtaskve given up playing sport this year because you dontaskt have the time. It might be a good idea to take up some other physical activity otherwise, by the end of the year, youtaskll wish you had! You could try walking. A 20-minute walk every day is just as good as working out or playing a sport and it will also clear your head.
C
Secondly, instead of snacking on crisps, which are high in calories, you can snack on something healthier. If ittasks something salty or tasty you crave, try eating some sliced raw vegetables, like carrots or cucumbers, with some salt and vinegar on them. Theytaskre just as tasty as crisps, but more nutritious and lower in calories.
D
Youtaskll find that exercise combined with a healthy diet will help you take care of yourself better and will also help you concentrate more on your studies.
E
Hope this helps and good luck with your studies this year.
Best wishes,
Rosanne

I’ve heard that a healthy diet combined with regular exercise can make you look good, feel better and live longer. I think ittasks time I started eating a healthy diet and doing some exercise, but Itaskm not sure how to go about it. I dontaskt have much time for breakfast or lunch and the canteen at school only sells junk food. Also,
I hate going to the gym. Is there anything else I could do instead? Any suggestions would be welcome.
Many thanks,
Jack
