I don’t like it when children shout out answers in class. There’s a boy in my class who’s really annoying because every time the teacher asks a question, he just shouts out the answer. I suppose he’s just showing off, you know, but it’s really annoying because other children don’t get a chance to answer. He should put up his hand like everyone else.
Speaker 2
Some classrooms are just disgusting, with rubbish on the floor and all the desks covered in graffiti and all that. I mean, they wouldn’t treat their homes like that, would they? You know, they wouldn’t just throw rubbish on their living room floor or write all over their sofa - but they treat school differently. I don’t know why. And then kids like me and my friends, we have to sit in the mess that the others make. It’s not fair, really, is it?
Speaker 3
One of my favourite teachers is Mr Williams because, well, he doesn’t label students. I mean, he doesn’t say, ‘you got 20 out of 20, well done, but you got 15 out of 20, so you’re no good.’ He doesn’t do that. He doesn’t compare one student with another; he just wants everyone to learn. You know, he isn’t always giving marks for everything we do, like some teachers do. He just wants to teach and to help us learn. I think other teachers should be more like Mr Williams.
Speaker 4
I don’t mind doing homework so I don’t think teachers give us too much homework. I think we need it, to be honest, but, you know, it has to be useful homework. Some teachers just say, do pages 34, 35, 36 and 37 and that’s it. They don’t seem to think, ‘What’s the point of this homework?’ You know what I mean? And so we just end up doing a hundred exercises which are all exactly the same, and there’s no point in that, is there?
Speaker 5
Schools don’t really need rules. We all just need to treat each other like we want to be treated. So I arrive on time for the lesson; I listen to children when they have something to say; I don’t interrupt them when they’re speaking; I let them express their opinions; I don’t make them feel stupid or embarrassed if they make a mistake. I do all this because I want them to treat me in the same way. I want them to arrive on time, to listen to me, and not to interrupt me. We just need to be considerate with each other - teachers and children. It’s very simple, really.
