A book discussion club, often simply called a book club, is when a group of people meet to discuss a book theytaskve all recently read. They are quite common in the UK, as they are a wonderful opportunity to talk about specific books and express opinions about a booktasks plot, characters and events. Members typically have literary discussions during the meetings, but it is not uncommon for members to talk about other topics, as the club also serves as a means of socializing. The book selections can be any type of book the members decide upon, but award-winning fiction books are popular choices.

In your opinion, how important is it to hold an award like The Man Booker Prize for Fiction’?
The Man Booker Prize for Fiction is a literary award presented yearly for the best full-length works of fiction written in English and published in the UK. It is a prestigious award A that brings much recognition to the winner, even to those who are simply nominated.
The award was established in 1968. shortly after becoming commonly known as the Booker Prize. Winners, aside from gaining the esteemed attention of the literary world, also receive a cash prize. Authors wore originally given 21.000 pounds, and this has since been raised to 50.000 pounds. В making it one of the most profitable literary prizes in the world.
Winners are chosen by a panel of judges. C which includes important figures from the literary world. Judges are selected by an advisory committee, which consists of a writer, a bookseller, a literary agent, a librarian, two book publishers and a person selected by the Booker Prize Foundation. These judges change from year to year, although they may return to the panel for a second time, if only rarely.
Past winners have all been citizens of the Commonwealth of Nations. D which are countries that once belonged to the British Empire. Also included arc the Republic of Ireland and Zimbabwe. Most of the winners have been of British citizenship, although there have been several v/inners of Irish. Indian and Australian origin. The prize is now awarded to a citizen of any country so long as the novel was published in the UK.
Occasionally, controversy arises in the award process. Some writers over the years have felt E that too much focus was given to particular types of fiction. making them feel as if their books were being overlooked. Also, judges have threatened to quit the panel because the list of nominees included selections not worthy of the prize. These incidences, however, have done nothing to diminish the reputation of the award.
In 1993 and 2008. the foundation gave special awards to celebrate the 25th and 40th anniversaries of the prize. These awards were given to the best of the Booker Prize winners, and in each instance, the prize was awarded to Salman Rushdietasks Midnight Children.
Other awards similar to the Booker Prize arc held in other countries: in Russia, it is known as the Russian Booker Prize and has been held since 1992.
