В Quickly read this article about the way talent shows have changed over the years. What three changes does the writer mention?
People have been watching talent show for years. When I was a child there was a show on TV called Opportunity Knocks. Contestants included 1) amateur comedians singers or magicians all hoping for stardom.
Most of them were quite good 2) at what they did, but nothing special.
After they had been given their brief moment of 3) fame and a small prize, they generally disappeared forever.
Today things could hardly be more different. Programmes like the X Factor are seen by millions of 4) viewers in the UK alone, and the shows have been exported to dozens of countries around the world. On 5) offer is a one million pound recording contract as first prize, and many successful singers have had serious careers started by such shows.
Whattasks more, todaytasks talent shows spread beyond TV. The shows have website channels with millions of 6) subscribers and newspaper editors seem to love them. Stories about contestantstask private lives and fighting between the showstask judges 7) hit the headlines every week. These programmes, it seems, have become more than a show. Theytaskre a way of life.
