Исчезновение языков - это процесс, который происходит почти во всех странах мира. Богатое разнообразие языков, которое должно было существовать в прошлом, снизилось, и количество языков сокращается быстрыми темпами. Как предполагают различные лингвисты, многие из 6 000 языков, на которых в настоящее время говорят в мире, не выживут в ближайшие пятьдесят лет и станут вымершими. В настоящее время дети используют не больше двадцати-пятидесяти процентов этих языков, что делает выживание языков очень сомнительным. Немало языков национальных меньшинств на территории Российской Федерации находятся под угрозой полного исчезновения, и меры должны быть приняты, чтобы положить конец этому процессу сокращения числа пользователей этих языков. Лингвисты и этнологи должны работать вместе с представителями общин исчезающих языков для того, чтобы найти пути решения этих проблем, что поможет сохранить языковое разнообразие нашей планеты.
