Библейская история о Вавилонской башне описывает то, как в первые дни мира, все человечество говорило на одном языке. Путешествуя с востока, люди пришли к Великим равнинам Вавилонии и поселились там. Они хотели построить башню такой высокой, чтобы ее верх мог достичь небес. Это рассердило Бога и в один прекрасный день они оказались все говорящими на разных языках. Они не могли понять друг друга и не смогли достроить башню. Люди иногда упоминают Вавилонскую башню при описании сцены путаницы, беспорядка и шума многих голосов.

Хотя история Вавилонской башни, как часто думают, чистый вымысел, есть археологические свидетельства того, что башня действительно существовала в древнем городе Вавилон. Вавилонской башни нет уже много лет, но продолжает вдохновлять художников и интеллектуалов на протяжении веков.

The biblical tale of the Tower of Babel describes how, in the early days of the world, all mankind spoke the same language. Journeying from the east, people came to the Great Plains of Babylonia and settled there. They wished to build a tower so high that its top could reach heaven. This made God angry and one day they found themselves all speaking different languages. They could not understand each other and were unable to finish building the tower. People sometimes mention the Tower of Babel when describing a scene of confusion, disorder and the noise of many voices.

Although the story of the Tower of Babel is often thought to be purely a myth, there are archaeological indications that a tower really existed in the ancient city of Babylon. The Tower of Babel has been gone for many years, but has continued to inspire artists and intellectuals throughout the ages.
